Final piece of steel lifted at Oishei Children’s Hospital

As crane operators prepared to lift the final piece of structural steel into place atop the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, officials pointed to a small tree fixed to the beam.

The tree, they said, represented the hope that the new hospital will be everlasting.

But they also pointed to hundreds of signatures on the beam, each representing a Kaleida Health staffer, physician, patient or constituent who will be impacted by the hospital when it opens on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus in about 23 months.
